A word from your the new Club Captain taken from his address at the AGM on 6 December...
“Throughout my working life I have been required to make many presentations, but at this moment I am feeling more nervous than ever. It’s always a good to go for the sympathy vote early on!
Sometimes it can be difficult to find something original to say so I will try to keep this brief and apologise if I seem to be repeating what others have said before me. Needless to say, I consider it an honour to be asked to become Captain of Lakeside Lodge and I would like to thank Dave Simpkins for giving me this opportunity.
As has been said in the past, it is the people that make a golf club and, in my experience the Lakeside Lodge members have always been supportive and have encourage me every step of the way. When we first started playing golf 9 years ago we didn’t know anybody but there were several members who were prepared to take me round to get cards marked for handicap purposes and some of them are in this room today.
It is people like this that have kept us here and I am pleased to be able to give something back to the club by taking on the Captaincy. I’m looking forward to the next year but have to admit to feeling a little apprehensive, however I am confident that there will be plenty of support from the committee and from the membership in general.
Over the next year I would really like to encourage as many people as possible to play in club competitions and to sign up for club matches, whatever their handicap. Whilst it is not possible for everybody to play in every match we will ensure that everybody who signs up does get a game during the season.
Above all else though I would like to ensure that, as a club, we have some fun and enjoy our golf.
In moving forward I would like to thank Dave and Lesley for their hard work over the past year and for the support that I know they will willingly provide during the coming year, their experience will be invaluable to me specifically and to the club in general.
I’d also like to thank the committee for their work during the past year and to welcome the new committee. In particular I’d like to thank Dave Ottley for agreeing to take on the role of Vice-Captain and for the support he will provide in the next year.
Finally I am looking forward to working with Val in her role as lady captain and believe we will work well together to help ensure that the members can enjoy their golf.”
