Lakeside Lodge is a leisure complex located in the heart of Cambridgeshire, providing many activities including Golf, Tenpin Bowling, Conferences, Accommodation, Parties and Corporate Entertainment. (Simply click on the link to take you to your chosen activity)

It was established in March 1992 and it is the close personal involvement of the Hopkins family that enables them to provide a welcoming friendly atmosphere, with no stiff out-dated formalities.

Lakeside Lodge was developed by father and son partnership, Ray and David Hopkins, and former St. Ives Golf Club Professional Alistair Headley designed the 18 Hole Lodge Course. Planning permission for the 18 Hole Course and the Par 3 Course was granted in October 1989 and the 150 acres of former farmland previously producing potatoes and onions underwent a massive landscaping programme, with more than 300,000 tons of soil and clay excavated to create eight large lakes and build mounds and banks to define the fairways and greens. To combat the bleak fen landscape David and his father Ray planted over 15,000 trees. Indeed, apart from the heavy excavation work, the duo carried out all the development and maintenance work themselves under the direction of turf consultants.

Work started on the £500,000, 11,000 sq. ft Club House in September 1991 ready for the complex opening in Spring 1992. The design of the clubhouse was based on a rural courtyard theme and gives panoramic views of the surrounding courses. As well as the large Bar/Restaurant you'll find four Conference Rooms. Within three years of the Club House opening the four lane AMF Tenpin Bowling Centre was added. Bowling offers a great alternative activity for non-golfers or when the weather really is too rough or dark!

In 1994 Tom James Turfcare were appointed as specialist contractors for the maintenance of the greens and tees at Lakeside Lodge and over the years members and visitors have been increasingly more delighted by the results created by Tom James and his expert team. Indeed their work has gained Lakeside Lodge the excellent reputation for great all year round playing conditions. You'll find that the courses at Lakeside Lodge stay open more than any other Golf Course in the County and trolley bans are virtually unheard of.

In 1996 the 9 Hole Manor Course was added and players really enjoy the contrasting design of this 2,601-yard course.

In April 1999 David became sole proprietor of the business when Ray retired, although Ray still continues a very active role in fairway cutting and he remains as President of Lakeside Lodge Golf Club!

In 2001 work was completed on the fourth course at Lakeside Lodge the 6 Hole Church Course adjacent to the Manor Course ... these new holes known as "The Church Course" give players yet another golfing experience to include in their visit to Lakeside Lodge.

David's wife Jane is Club Secretary and David and Jane are very proud of their hard-working and loyal team of staff. Indeed the three Club House Managers, Annette Parker (David's sister), Clare Hibberd and Karen Stevenson have all been Managing the Bar and Restaurant since the business was established. The Club Golf Professional Scott Waterman, who now runs the Golf Shop, has also worked for Lakeside Lodge right from the early days of the course construction.

Head Chef Mike Warner and his staff are responsible for the vast range of catering on offer. Everything from all-day snacks and A La Carte menu to meals for golfers, bowlers and residents, formal meals for groups, Sunday Carveries and Wedding Receptions and Special Occasions.

You'll find Jane Hopkins in the busy Office together with David's sister Jackie Ayres, and Mary Topham, all of whom will be pleased to help you with bookings and enquiries.

In the 1500 sq feet well-stocked Golf Shop Club Professional Scott Waterman currently employs David Milburn and Allan Burry. In late Spring 2006 we welcomed Andy Fletcher PGA Golf Professional and both he and Scott divide their time between the busy shop and teaching in the Academy, as well as ensuring the smooth running of the courses.

Over the last three years a total of 58 en-suite bedrooms have been built throughout the complex with the latest additions being six Alpine-style Lodges offering 4, 5 or six bedrooms, each with a communal lounge area. Overnight accommodation and golf breaks are now big business at Lakeside Lodge and would not be possible without the hardworking Housekeeping Team led by Gail Wool.

In January this year David and Jane were pleased to welcome to Lakeside Lodge "Jessica Latta Complete Beauty Care" Jessica offers a wide range of facial, head and body treatments and her Salon is open from Tuesday to Saturday every week.

"What next at Lakeside Lodge?" I hear you ask. "Watch this space!"
